Three Pro Tips On How To Make Tights Comfortable
If you are a normal human you already know that wearing tights is uncomfortable. The waistband digs into you, making lumps and bumps where there usually are non. They fall down all damn day, so you have to constantly pinch your legs while you grab the tights to pull them up. No matter what size it says on the package they always feel too small. Usually tights are worn in the winter to make dresses warm enough, but tights are not warm, so your semi-bare legs are always freezing.... there are a myriad of issues that come with the cute polished look of tights with dresses. I know the struggle is real, so I want to share with you three pro fashionista tips to making tights more comfortable.
1. Buy pregnancy tights. This is my number one tip for a reason. Pregnancy tights are awesome if you are not pregnant! I discovered this at 16 when I borrowed a pair of tights from my very pregnant mother and proceeded to have the happiest of days in my amazing loose fitting tights. If you cant find pregnancy tights buy tights that are way too big for you, I have also found that Spanx makes a wonderful pair of tights that come up to your bra. This tip will help eliminating the bulgy lumps from a tight waistband cutting into your insides. I always buy my tights from goodwill because you can always find new in the package tights and stocking for $0.99-$3.99 rather than paying the crazy department store prices! This way if you get a run in your tights, its not a big deal!
2. Wear shorts over the top of your tights to keep them up all day. I like to wear yoga shorts over my tights because the fabric is slick and won’t cling to the dress fabric. If you don’t own a pair of tight yoga booty shorts (not everyone has this in their wardrobe, me included) then the next best thing is to make your own. I do this quickly and easily by cutting a pair of leggings or yoga pants. The best part about this is, you also get a pair of matching leg warmers, which leads me to tip #3
3. Wear leg warmers or knee socks with your tights. I have noticed over my lifetime of living in the Pacific Northwest, that if the bottom half of your legs are covered, it drastically
increases your overall warmth. So even though your thighs are still less protected, simply having your calf’s and shins covered will make you happy, warm, and don’t forget, stylish!
Yesterday the inspiration for my outfit came from my new bright blue booty shorts/leg warmer combo I made to wear over my tights. I started by cutting a pair of blue leggings that my daughter just grew out of and I picked out a dress and blue matching sweater. But when I assembled my leg collection and looked in the mirror, I decided that instead, I would showcase my secret tights tricks and I created this adorable, all be it, a little avant-garde outfit. I paired it with my LuLuLemon blue jacket (Goodwill $9.99) and my 686 blue snowboard hat (Goodwill $2.99). These two are perfect puzzle pieces.
