Why You Should Wear a Summer Dress When You are Hosting a Winter Party
Hosting a dinner party can come with all sorts of challenges. What to wear should not be one of them... My pro fashionista tip for Winter Hostess Realness is, pick a black summer dress. The greatest thing about a summer dress is that you can add tights and a sweater and it becomes an warm winter look. As you know, I love to layer. Learn more about my love of layers by reading my blog post How I Learned to Layer for My Life, a Canadian Wilderness Fashion Adventure. The last thing any hostess wants is a wardrobe malfunction. When you are a hostess you end up spending a majority of your time in a hot steamy kitchen. Things such as overheating can cause sweating, pit-stains or make-up melt-downs (just being real here) cooking for a large group of your closest friends and relatives can be stressful and if you are anything like me, you might even clumsily spill sauce all over yourself. This is why wearing a black summer dress, tights, and a drapery sweater can be a perfect balance.
I was responsible for cooking Christmas Breakfast (Eggs Benedict and Hash-browns, my favorite) for 8 people. I also had to make Christmas Dinner for 9 people yesterday. I really wanted a fun Christmas outfit that made me feel dressy but that was also comfortable so that I could host Christmas day effortlessly, sans wardrobe issues. I chose a black summer dress with red and green embroidery details(Christmas colors), black tights, a black BCBG drapery sweater and black boots for playing in the snow. I switched to my black wedge heels indoors. I was so pleased with my wardrobe choices I have decided, I will always wear a black summer dress to host a winter party.
